Hello! I am thrilled to be back at Howard, where I began my career as a teacher over 26 years ago. I spent 13 years at Howard teaching English, Theater, and AP Literature; I also spent 12 years at Tyner High School teaching English, AP Literature, Dual Enrollment English, ACT Prep, and working with teachers in the capacity of an instructional coach. My dual BA is in English and French; my MA is in English; and my Ph.D. is in English Literary Studies with a concentration in Old and Middle English. This is my second year back at Howard, where my educational focus is aligning curriculum and instruction with a concentration on actionable feedback.

My life-long goal as an educator is to ensure that all students have access to the quality, rigorous instruction they deserve and require, and to help teachers understand that increased expectations help all students achieve at higher levels.

Greetings! My name is Andrea Short, and I have the honor of serving as the Assistant Principal at Howard High School. The 2018-2019 school year will begin my 16th year in education. After graduating from Mississippi State University (Go Dawgs) with a Biology degree, I began my career as a Biology and Anatomy & Physiology teacher. My family and I embarked upon a unique experience that relocated us to the Washington, DC area. I continued my career as an educator, but in the private sector. After moving back to Mississippi, I continued to serve as a Biology Teacher, Department Chair, Junior sponsor, Prom sponsor and Homecoming sponsor. Desiring to impact more students, I pursued a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership. After graduating from the University of Southern Mississippi in 2012 with a Master's degree in Educational Leadership, I continued my journey as a educational leader, serving as an Assistant Principal at NR Burger Middle School and Petal High School, and as a Principal at LB STEAM Academy. I am committed to ensuring that quality instruction and learning is taking place in each classroom. I am also committed to building the relationships that are required to spur motivation, give empowerment, and enhance collegiality.
